Chiang Mai

07/11/10 Stopped in Chiang Mai on the way to Laos. Mainly to meet Lin Ping and Lin Hui.

Many nice temples.

Best Meat Bun so far!

Parasol Stall on the Sunday Walking Street.

Errr scarily looking abit like David Beckham John?!! Also been mistaken for a a very good cricket player called Michael in India, an American tennis player in Sri Lanka oh and Stevie Gerrard! Didnt keep the mohawk though - its all coming off!

Train to Chiang Mai

06/11/10 Pretty luxurious compared to India Sleeper - clean sheets and everything! Few beers and cake sandwich - 7/11 special

BKK Weekend Market

06/11/10  Bangkok has the most amazing weekend market. Portobello, spittlefields, camden all in one. 15000 stalls of clothes, new and used, junk, antiques, art, books, pets, flowers and food. There's even a map to get you round, which we needed. It was quite overwhelming! And not to leave with a suitcase full of stuff! Recommend it to anyone :) Especially Zoe ;)

Took the futuristic Skytrain there.

Second hand shoes, awesome.  Do Vans just get better or what?  Can't wait for mine to get like these...

Thai Eats

We've been pretty overwhelmed and occupied by street stalls since arriving in Bangkok.  Food is Lush!  We just want to try everything!  Here's some classics for the Class of Taipei 2009... James and Jess are you missing it already?

Noodowl sooop :) 40 Baht (90p)

Pad Thai 30 Baht
Spring Rolls 10 Baht

Meeeeeat Bunnnnnnnnnnnn 15 Baht

Dumpwing 20 Baht (3pcs)

Hollow Stalk garlic chili goodness 25 Baht

Oh heavenly lord. Not quite Hockey Pucks, but tastes the same - we went back for seconds and we're definitely gonna seek the lady out when we make a stop in Bangkok next month! Hoorah for green custard! Rack of six 10 Baht

7/11 crawl!! Cheap way to drink in Bangkok :) And the plan for new year;) Any ideas for fancy dress?

Ooo also...Bubble Tea :)

Som Fuhn Tings

China Town, whatta woman.

Tetra Pak (thats a Tetra Brik Aesceptic) offerings.  We also saw cups of tea and Bacon and Eggs!

Fish Foot Massage.  Tiny fishes nibbling at your pinkies.  Not so theraputic more tickelish!

For Duncan :) from John and Grace.

I Heart Bangkok

04/11/10 After 2 months in India and Sri Lanka we hit Bangkok ready for a crazy, tacky, in-you-face, 24/7 happening city.  Just what we needed.  Love it!

Sri Classics

Waves for Lazy Lefts

John was spotted drawing and asked to paint the wall!  Pretty stoked :)

Just done before sundown.  Thumbs up from Tata :)

Lazy Lefts at Midigama

01/11/10 Been away 2 months today!  We found this place by chance while on a day trip from Mirissa.  Sugi and Tata had an awesome little place right on the beach, about as low key as you can get.  Really cool guys, would love to stay longer :)  Good left reef break out the back too!

Mirissa

30/10/10  South Coast.  More beach, but different pets.  We saw a lizard/dinosaur crossing the road over 2m long, fire flies and phosphorescence

Grace likes collecting shells, it's even more fun when the shells are moving!  Loads of mini hermit crabs and giant ones too at night.

Sri Bevies

EGB (elephant ginger beer) sitting outside the shop. Rs 60

King Coconut by the side of the road.  First the juice, then the flesh. Rs 20

Selan the Tailor

Selan was in Arugam Bay and he'd tweaked his skills to making boardies.  Had to get some customs...

Arugam Bay

26/10/10  East Coast. Just arrived as the surf season ended and were left with empty waves and lush beaches :)

We stayed in a penthouse cabana with wave music, sunrise alarm clock and pets such as chipmunks, mice and spiders. Amazing!!!

Main Point, a right hand point break over reef.  Not too big and some glassy mornings :)

Sri Food

Here's some of the local eats...

Rice and Curry: order before 4pm for an evening meal. Rs 300-500

Kottu Roti: Chopped and fried roti with egg, veg and chicken gravy. Rs 180 (about a pound)

Short Eats: Veg, fish, egg wrapped up in more roti - they give you a plateful and see how many you can eat! Rs 30

Ella Rock

25/10/10  From Ella, took the small climb up to Ella rock, involving train tracks, trees and getting lost...

Hill Country Train

24/10/10  Continued our journey east through the hills towards Ella :)

Sri Pada

23/10/10  Sri Pada or Adam's Peak is a big Pilgrimage for Buddhist, Christians, Hindus....they all tweak the story to fit!  We climbed the 5200ish steps at 2am to get up for the most incredible sunrise!

We climbed under a full moon, with low clouds and lots of stars:) The Peak is 2243m

Things got spooky as we climbed into the clouds.  Lots of abandoned stalls and shrines, that only come alive during pilgrimage season.  A little Spirited Away...

Finally arrived at the freeeeezing top.  Full moon above the clouds.

Here comes the sun, ditty ditty...

Even if you weren't allowed to, it would be impossible not to right? Ring it! ...Apparently you ring it for how many times you have climbed the peak and its like giving God a ring so he knows you made the pilgrimage?! So I guess we're in his little black book now. A bit like Father Christmas' naughty or nice list! Oooerr.
